Department of Education released a memorandum order No. 158 s. 2019 on the Nationwide Celebration of 2019 National Reading Month (NRM) with the theme: “Magbasa’t Umunlad”.
This memorandum is addressed to Undersecretaries, Assistant Secretaries, Bureau of Service Directors, Regional Directors, Schools Division Superintendent, Public and Private Elementary and Secondary School heads and all others concerned.
The NRM will be celebrated nationwide with synchronized story reading time on November 27, 2019 9:00AM P.S.T. November 27 of every year will be declared as Araw ng Pagbasa by Republic act No. 10556 and will be a regular working holiday to be celebrated in all elementary and secondary schools in the country.
Lists of suggested activities for NRM is also mentioned in the memorandum.
Moreover, in the celebration of NRM the school must not violate DepEd order No. 9 s. 2005 titled Instituting Measures to Increase Engaged Time-On-Task and Ensuring Compliance therewith.
DepEd also required schools to submit their narrative reports and photos of the NRM activities to this link https://forms.gle/jSFSivBzaPo4ZYwf7 not later than December 9, 2019.
