Insakto bala ang pagpatuman sang “No Vaccination No Ride Policy” sa pungsod?

Ang Department of Transportation (DoTr) nag isyu sang Department Order No. 2022-001 ukon mas kilala nga “No Vaccination No Ride Policy.”

May ara sang may gusto nga magpabakuna kag may ara man sang indi tungod sa ila personal nga rason.

Sa Seksyun 1, Artikulo III sang Bill of Rights naka butang nga “No person shall be deprived of life, liberty, or property without due process of law, nor shall any person be denied the equal protection of laws.”

Bal-an man naton nga ang pagkadlaw amo ang unibersal nga stress reliever.

Isa ka hambalanon halin kay Stuart Mcmillan; “a meow massages the heart.”

Deer breeds from October to November as well as the talarak or the Visayan Wrtithed hornbill and the Visayan Warty Pig which breeding season extends until January.

The conservation park is under the management of the West Visayas State University–College of Agriculture and Forestry (WVSU–CAF). It is the first conservation, breeding and rescue park in Panay Island. The area expands to 1000-heactares lot within 3,000-hectare campus of the WVSU-CAF, 16 kilometers away from the town center, according to Panay News.

In an article from Panay News Agency, they stated that the park currently hosts 15 Visayan writhed hornbills, considered as the world’s second most critically endangered hornbill, and endangered Visayan tarictic hornbill; 20 endangered Visayan spotted deer; 11 critically endangered Visayan warty pigs; five vulnerable Visayan leopard cats; and two cloud rats, among others.

The managements prohibits guests to approach deer, leopard cats and monkeys because they can be aggressive during the breeding season.

The park will be accommodating 30 person at a time. Guest should also follow the required health protocols in preventing the spread of COVID-19 such as guests should observe protocols such as wearing of face masks, face shields, washing of hands and logging in and out for contract tracing, advised by the Lambunao Tourism Officer, Jennifer Osorio.

The pandemic has allowed animals to rest. While the number of guests is controlled, the animals could still be stressed if they are exposed to noise or anything that is new to them.

Jennifer Osorio, Lambunao Tourism Officer

The wildlife and conservation park is being promoted as an eco-tourism site. Apart from the endangered species, it also hosts rich flora and fauna according to PNA.

Phil Gov’t bans dragon dance shows due to the pandemic

Manila mayor, Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso, cancelled all Chinese New Year Celebration including the Raucous dragon dance in Chinatown district in Binondo due to the threat of COVID-19.

Raucous dragon dance is one the the many traditions performed during the Chinese New Year. It is believed that performing the dragon dance scares away evil spirits and all the bad luck associated with them, and brings in good luck and wealth instead, according to Gund Kwok. But this year due to the pandemic the streets of Binondo, where the oldest China town in the world is located, will be nothing but empty.

Due to the banning of dragon dances, residents in Binondo including Sicat lost their livelihood. However even without the shows, Therry Sicat and his family are fighting to keep the Chinese tradition and their livelihood alive.

“There would have been large crowds wanting to drive away the misery and bad luck, but our street dance shows were prohibited this year”

Therry Sicat told the AP News.

Sicat along with his siblings manages one of the several dragon dance troupes in Chinatown.

In a facebook post by Arron Favila he shared photos of Therry Sicat and his siblings as they “turned their unused styrofoam, cans of paint and other materials intended for dragon costume-making to craft Chinese-style miniature lion decorative”.

Sicat sold about 200 pieces of the miniature dragons. Each are priced for about 1,500 pesos. However compared to dragon dances, Sicat’s profits from the decorative lion heads are just a fraction of the income generated by their dragon dance shows in the past. During the busy Lunar New Year season in past years, a Chinatown business establishment would pay 35,000 pesos for a session of dragon and lion dancing accompanied by drummers and merrymakers for good luck according to AP NEWS.

Therry Sicat along with residents from Tondo remains optimistic in celebration of the Chinese New Year despite the threat of COVID-19. Mr. Therry Sicat looks forward to the return of the hope-inspiring dragon dances and hearing the drums again.

“There’s no Chinese New Year, but we are all healthy. We can survive this pandemic,”

We’ve all had our fair share of difficulties in 2020 but many of us were able to sustain our own way of life, but what about the orphaned children who lost those who loved them? Who will be their mentors? With this thought in mind, we reached out to an organization that operates in different countries to help us look for students with the most urgent needs and thus our project came to bear fruit.” They added.
