NUJ conducts Maguindanao Massacre’s Commemoration

Iloilo City – National Union of Journalists of the Philippines Iloilo Chapter in partnership with Commission on Human Rights Iloilo held a commemoration for the 58 Victims of the Maguindanao Massacre in November 23, 2013.

Mass communication students from various Universities are invited to commemorate the 10th year of Ampatuan massacre which killed 58 victims and 32 of them were media personnel. The forum aimed to remember those who died and to continue fighting for the Justice for the victims and their families.

On November 23, 2010 a convoy was on their way to Shariff Aguak town in Maguindanao to file the certificate candidacy for Esmael Mangudadato was ambushed and buried by hundreds of armed men. The incident was considered as the world’s deadliest attack against journalists.

During the forum Nestor Burgos from the National Union of Journalists of the Philippines gives updates on the status of the Ampatuan case. Supposedly the case was submitted for resolution but according to the Supreme Court judge Reyes asked for another few days to review the case so the expected resolution will be anticipated on December 20.

Mr. Christopher Montano CHR Official is also present during the forum to share his insights about the tragedy.

The forum happened simultaneously around some places in the Philippines and 11:23am everyone offered 58 seconds of silence for the 58 victims of the Ampatuan massacre.
